Slumbering Sloth by Adagio Teas

Adagio has been on my radar for years. It caught my attention with its fandom-inspired teas, including the ones made with Welcome to Night Vale in mind. They make many other fandom teas, including some inspired by Sailor Moon, my personal introduction to anime and manga as a kid. And the tins and other packaging are incredible.

Slumbering Sloth includes rooibos, also called “red tea,” which has no caffeine. It also includes herbals and botanicals known to improve relaxation and sleep quality:

  • Lemon balm
  • Skullcap
  • Passionflower
  • Lavender
  • Rose petals
  • Natural vanilla flavor

(Unless otherwise specified in the tea’s description, all Adagio teas are 100% vegan. I checked, because “natural flavors,” can mean a lot of things!)

Night Owl by Adagio

Are you trying to power through a long night rather than giving in to sleep? Adagio has you covered there, too.

Just be sure that’s what you want, because Adagio states that this tea contains a high level of caffeine. That makes sense, because the first ingredient is yerba mate, a particularly strong form of green tea that’s about as caffeinated as coffee.

It includes a robust lineup of ingredients in addition to the mate:

  • Peppermint leaves
  • Lemongrass
  • Schisandra berry
  • Kola nuts
  • Black peppercorn
  • Natural lemon flavor
  • Marigold flowers

Sweet Tangerine Positive Energy by Yogi Tea

My personal favorite energy tea, which I discovered in graduate school, will give you a tangerine-infused lift without the jitters or crash.

Sweet Tangerine Positive Energy contains caffeine, of course, but it also comes with adaptogenic ingredients like ashwagandha and eleuthero. Those are two of my favorite discoveries in tea, and it goes well with the Assam black tea that stands as a base for the rest of the ingredients. It makes a great canvas for the other flavors and aromatics:

  • Lemongrass
  • Green tea leaf extracts
  • Asian ginseng root
  • Essential oils
  • Yerba mate
  • Stevia leaf
  • Citric acid
  • Monk fruit extract
  • Natural and organic flavors

Calm by Tazo

This stuff saved my ass several times in school, especially where presentations or leadership roles were involved. I have a lot of anxiety, and I used to not be able to get through anything like that without trembling and sweating and stuttering all over the place. When I wrote epic-length papers and was unsure of myself, it helped me calm down. It occasionally helped me say “f*** it,” and press “send,” or “turn in,” when I had to.

Chamomile provides a nice backdrop in combination with other florals and herbals, listed below:

  • Hibiscus flowers
  • Spearmint leaves
  • Rose petals
  • Lemongrass
  • Blackberry leaves
  • Peppermint leaves
  • Sarsaparilla root
  • Lemon balm leaf
  • Licorice root
